Can you name some specific sites where this is an issue for you? I've had nothing but good experiences buying online, in the US at least. Every single site I've bought from has the same boring and functional checkout experience, whether it's Stripe Checkout, Google Wallet, or Shopify. They're practically all the same, and they all work fine.
