This may sound a bit shallow, but the only thing that's ever worked for me is I always ask myself the question: "What is the next step that I can do right now to make me the wealthiest man on this planet?" This usually leads me down a path of questions that result in me having to teach myself something to build something to solve a particular problem which fulfills a need.
