For gamers, Apple isn't an option.
- BlindEyeHalo 2y agobut linux is?
- deafpolygon 2y agoMost games work, if it isn’t bundled with anti-cheat.
- Hamuko 2y agoYes, actually. The (Arch) Linux-based Steam Deck is brilliant for gaming. Much better than any Mac in my household.
- getwiththeprog 2y agoGames on linux now regularly get better frame rates than the same games under windoze. https://www.tomshardware.com/software/linux/three-gaming-focused-linux-operating-systems-beat-windows-11-in-gaming-benchmarks https://www.tomshardware.com/software/linux/three-gaming-foc... If you want to try out games on linux and make it easy, try out Lutris.
- izacus 2y agoSince Valve's Proton and Steam Deck (with companies targeting Steam Deck compatibility) Linux has become a very viable alternative. Apple with its ARM CPUs and requirement for Metal isn't there really.
- dpbriggs 2y agoThe only games I can't play on Linux are mega-modded Skyrim and League of Legends.
- fwsgonzo 2y agoI can at least confirm playing mega-modded Oblivion on Linux.
- nickserv 2y agoNot sure if 500 mods is "mega", but Skyrim runs fine using wine-staging. Indeed no issues with dx9 for a long time now. Never tried LoL, but dx12 games like Horizon ZD/FW run well enough with ultra settings for the former, high for the latter.
- nickserv 2y agoGamers typically want to be able to customize their hardware.
- surgical_fire 2y agoAbsolutely. Unless you play some crap that relies on anti-cheat malware (and in that case, you might want to re-evaluate your gaming tastes), I have been gaming on Linux without any issues.
- BriggyDwiggs42 2y agoBrother some of us have friends who want to play “crap” games with us.
- hggigg 2y agoIndeed. I decided after getting fucked by Epic that I wasn't going to invest in any games any more. The whole market leaves a bad taste in my mouth now. Apple was an easy move. Hat tip to any Linux switchers. I hope you get what you need out of it.
