Boeing's Starliner started making a repeating 'pulsing' sound yesterday
- phendrenad2 2y agoSo what do we know about this? The speaker on the Starliner is making this noise. Presumably the speaker is connected to various radios, but they've probably eliminated those as sources of the problem (otherwise they'd have mentioned it rather than saying the speaker is making the noise). Sounds to me like something along the wire from the speaker to whatever it's connected to is acting as an antenna, and the noise sounds like broad-spectrum radio static, the kind you get during a thunderstorm from lightning. But, it's too periodic (anyone want to open it up in Audacity and tell me if it's actually accurately periodic?) It would be interesting to know what they were over when they heard it. Or is it happening everywhere? Could be they're picking up HAARP or something. - ggm 2y agoI was tempted to go with the "some device on the path to speaker with a lifetime timer and a warning buzzer" idea but you reminded me of a job a long time ago where we wired pre-cat5 serial up to a Dec-10 replacing a board, and phantom ascii started to appear on the input terminals. Sometimes, RFI just makes the right shape to fool things and you have valid bitstream from .. nothing. So if there is an element on the path to the speaker which is the right tuned antenna to something either periodic on the ISS, or periodic as the ISS moves in orbit, you could get something from .. nothing.
