The web application course is taught by Steve Huffman (creator of Reddit) and the first lesson is actually to write a "Hello World" script and publish it on App Engine. For anyone new to Python, I highly recommend Udacity. It's still a little unbelievable to me that it's free. *edit: I should have mentioned that this course uses app engine throughout it's entirety. Not just the first lesson :)
