Pretty sure the Subaru Crosstrek mentioned in the article doesn't have one, but a WRX STI (also marketed as "AWD") has a lockable center diff. I agree with the other comment: if the Parks Service wants locking diffs (or ride height or whatever else) they should say so, not rely on inconsistent marketing terms.
