Show HN: I open sourced Athena Crisis, a game built with React and CSS
Hey HN! I'm so excited to open source Athena Crisis under the MIT-License and fund contributions to the game and the genre.
If you like the game and want to support its development, please check it out on Steam or on athenacrisis.com.
- swyx 2y agoexcited to have supported this from the early days! i think people might not be appreciating that this is not just an open source game, but its also an opinionated, heavily-in-use nontrivial example of SOTA javascript tooling steup from one of the world's top JS tooling experts. lots of lessons to learn in there.
- anonzzzies 2y agoVery cool! Didn't know about the game , but this is all pretty excellent even when just reading the code!
- ArkimPhiri 2y agoAmazing what you can do with React and CSS
- avree 2y agoThis looks very reminiscent of Advance Wars.
- seabass-labrax 2y agoIt looks really fun and remarkably polished! It's hard to stress just how exciting it is to see a commercial video game being developed as FOSS like this. If enough of the back-end code to run a private server could be made available as open source (for FOSS-y LAN/WAN parties) that would be wonderful.
- jakubmazanec 2y agoI can't use https://athenacrisis.com/ https://athenacrisis.com/ in Firefox, I have to kill the tab because of how unresponsive the page is.
- hju22_-3 2y agoExperienced the same on Android with Chrome.
- spell-slinger 2y agoThanks @cpojer for this amazingly well crafted, open source love letter to the games I grew up with
