I had a thought that maybe increased marijuana use is a factor in this. I did a quick search and there are a quite a few studies and stories on the relationship between marijuana use and suicidal thoughts and attempts. It could also be that people who already have other factors turn to marijuana, which makes it worse instead of better. I'm sure it's not the only thing, but it is a major change for 20-somethings in the last 10 years or so that they have much easier access to THC products that are extraordinarily potent.
