How Taiwan Became Arrakis
- arrrtem 2y agoEveryone needs chips, but only a few companies can produce them. I tried to understand how Taiwan was able to upgrade its economy and create TSMC.
- x3n0ph3n3 2y agoSo extending this analogy, are the ROC the Fremen and are they going to wage a new holy war after the rise of a charismatic leader?
- arrrtem 2y agoWell, China's attempt to conquer Taiwan would be disastrous to global trade and TSMC, and because all Nvidia GPUs are produced there, it will also hit AI development. So, it looks more like a Butlerian jihad, if we stretch the metaphor.
- bibanez 2y agoThis is a well written and interesting introductory article to learn about the context behind semiconductor manufacturing. It's good! Sadly I cringed a bit too hard at the Dune analogy haha
- arrrtem 2y agoIt's not my metaphor - I saw the meme and multiple such comparisons on reddit and elsewhere, and decided to write a bit deeply on it. glad you found it interesting though :)
