Funnily enough I had a similar issue that only occurred after switching to Wayland, that turned out to be due to a bad DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor. Replaced it

Funnily enough I had a similar issue that only occurred after switching to Wayland, that turned out to be due to a bad DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor.
Replaced it with a new one and it now works fine.
