Have wondered for years whether Akamai's Query system (https://www.usenix.org/legacy/events/lisa10/tech/full_papers/Cohen.pdf https://www.usenix.org/legacy/events/lisa10/tech/full_papers..., sadly never open sourced) had any influence on the creation of osquery. They are quite different architecturally but functionally similar.
