  Those appear to be static. The ear rings in the OP are way cooler. But damn, for 4 dollars? I didn't expect even those to be that cheap.

  You probably didn't watch the video. These are exactly the earrings used in the video to create the matrix LED ones. These earrings are just a fake jewel with an LED back light. The article showcases a programable LED matrix, which opens up a lot more possibilities.
