GitHub Actions: M1 macOS runner available to open source
- TillE 3y agoAmong GitHub's free runners, Linux is typically very fast, Mac is very slow, and Windows is somewhere in the middle. The quoted specs certainly sound great, hopefully they have sufficient capacity.
- seam_carver 3y agoFINALLY. I can finally easily create native Apple Silicon apps for my users!
- galad87 3y agoIt's already possible to cross-compile using an Intel Mac runner, but maybe you meant "easily" as not setting any additional compiler option.
- seam_carver 3y agoIt's tricky building universal pyinstaller apps if any of your dependencies aren't all universal.
- gorbypark 3y agoIs M1 being used as a catch all for Apple Silicon here, or is this really M1 based hardware? Seems a bit odd to be offering M1s in 2024 when Apple's entire lineup (short of the lowest end MacBook Air) is on M2/M3 chips, I believe.
- ErikBjare 3y agoI think it's actually M1 Mac Mini's.
- joshstrange 3y agoI'm looking forward to trying this to see if it's any better than their current, trash, offering for macOS. But if it's similar then I'm probably going to go with something like WarpSpeed and just pay them to do what GitHub should really be leading the pack on.
