It was just ridiculous. One of the central innovations of the iPhone was making scrolling with touchpad as natural as flicking a piece of paper over a table. It seemed instantaneous. Most touchpads before the iPhone weren't capacitive. They required a lot of pressure. Using them for scrolling seemed ridiculous.
