Rethinking the dining table chair for an aging population (2021)
- abecedarius 3y agoThe problem: many elders have trouble with pulling a chair out from the table, sitting, and scooting back in. Isn't a more obvious solution to make a chair that can turn like an office chair, but without the wheels? You could improvise this out of an office chair with a wheel lock control.
- Someone 3y agoWould that even work? In the “seated at the table” position, the edge of the chair seat is below the table top, so if you purely rotate the chair, I would think the backrest would hit the table top before you have turned the seat by 90 degrees. That’s why some picnic tables have seats that swivel out. That requires a heavier table, though.
- abecedarius 3y agoDepends on how close you want to sit and how broad is the backrest. Maybe people mostly want values of those that are worse for this? But then you could design a backrest with a slot.
- stacktrust 3y ago> the backrest would hit the table top before you have turned the seat by 90 degrees. It does, but a backless chair might be acceptable in some situations.
- stacktrust 3y agoThis chair can swivel 360° and locks every 90°, with stationary legs, https://www.mobbhhc.com/product-new-swivel-shower-chair https://www.mobbhhc.com/product-new-swivel-shower-chair
