I'm pretty sure that's how Unity started too? Unity versions 1 and 2 were never available to the public
- floydnoel 3y agoSorry to say, but that is not accurate. Versions 1.0 (2005) and 2.0 (2007) were both publicly available. Unity was announced at WWDC as a game engine developed for Mac OS X.
