This seems like borderline paranoia. Water travels potentially dozens of miles from the place where it is cleaned and treated with chlorine to kill bugs. The vast majority of that in non-copper pipes. The last few feet inside your house seems unlikely to change anything.
- xeonmc 3y agoYes but the dozens of miles is moving water whereas the last few feet in you house is stale water.

- oogali 3y agoIf you have a water dispenser (through a refrigerator), do you fill and dump two glasses before getting yourself a glass of water to consume?
- jiofj 3y agoI guess I would. It seems dangerous not to for the reasons mentioned here.
- VBprogrammer 3y agoI hadn't got a water dispenser like that but I'd be really surprised to find that the internal reservoir and piping was made of anything except for plastic.
- bombcar 3y agoSome actually have coiled copper (it transmits "cold" better) - but almost all of them have a filter.

- xinayder 3y agoI have a filter before the water comes in and after it comes out of the water tank. Heated water is kept in a different reservoir and the piping uses heat resistant PVC. In Brazil, most times the water has a smell of chlorine so I guess the chances of it having deadly/lethal microbia there are next to null? Drank water from the tap (where plumbing is done properly) for all my life, never had any problems so far.
