- chihuahua 3y agoI'm surprised Amazon didn't come up with that idea a long time ago.
- valzam 3y agoI can only imagine that the amount of money you have to spend on IT for a myriad of different devices + the security implications + the hurdle to get non-technical people to manage their own devices is just not worth it. Let's say amazon has 100k white-collar workers. If they all the 1k USD devices on avg that's 100mio dollars. That's < 0.1% of their !quarterly! revenue.
- joncrane 3y agoThey don't provide a laptop, AND your work computer must run Ubuntu.
- ghaff 3y agoIt is unusual although I use my own devices (running whatever I want to) even though I could get a standard-issue laptop.
- antisthenes 3y agoThey should give people devices just for wasting enough of their time with a lengthy interview process. Like, sorry you didn't make it past the final stage, but here's a nice Framework laptop with Ubuntu.
- ThrowawayR2 3y agoConsidering the underpowered equipment that often gets issued as standard hardware by IT departments, I wouldn't be that unhappy about BYOD.
- dv_dt 3y agoWhatever other faults the Canonical process has, BYOD sort of makes sense to me from a dogfooding perspective with a company carrying a major desktop Linux offering. Would look for a budget or have it reflected in their offer analysis though.
- squidsoup 3y agoThey do pay for a laptop upgrade every three (iirc) years however.
