DeSantis has lots of good qualities and good positions but his bizarre culture-war obsessions make him look foolish and are absolutely destroying him on the national scene.
If he would just focus on a pro-business, pro-development message, it would resonate. Instead he largely comes across as a weird, awkward troll.
- dralley 3y ago>If he would just focus on a pro-business, pro-development message Like funneling tens of millions of dollars of state funds directly into the pockets of his campaign backers, while spending tens of millions more state dollars filing petty lawsuits against Disney and Budweiser for perceived slights, with much of that money coming from state hurricane relief funds immediately prior to hurricane season. I don't think the insurance companies are feeling the "pro-business" administration right now, either.
- krapp 3y agoTrump is still the wide favorite, but given the amount and degree of charges he's facing, unlikely to be able to serve in office from a prison cell. DeSantis is positioning himself as the viable Trump alternative to a base still primarily obsessed with culture war. The national stage doesn't matter. Most people didn't vote for Trump and he still nearly got two terms.
- xorbax 3y agoWell I'm sure the bad parts are his real beliefs and the wierd stuff is political posturing and he's good enough at newSpeak to hold two contradictory ideas in his head with no problem. A state government small enough to fit in a child's shrinking future
- phmqk76 3y agoThat’s a great line!
- imadierich 3y agoim not understanding..... how does "his" culture war "obsession" make him look foolish? we literally have people running around as females calling themselves men and vice versa. is that not the crux of foolery this is akin to teaching 5 + 5 = 12 and being upset a governor is stepping in to fix the issue
- phmqk76 3y agoPeople said the same thing about gay people. Hell, millions of Americans still feel the same way about gay people. But the rest of us are decent enough to offer kindness and acceptance, while ignorant people like you suffer verbal diarrhea.

- dralley 3y agoHalf of the insurance companies have pulled out of his state and he's spending tens of millions of hurricane relief funds to sue Disney and Budweiser while the Gulf of Mexico is 100 degrees.

- kanbara 3y agothere’s no issue to fix. some people are born with different neurochemistry, and are happier to live as a man or a woman. who cares? i know it threatens the patriarchical masculine worldview, but it doesn’t hurt anyone in reality.
