We are probably seeing the end of the Ad funded Content Creation golden age (or spam age depending on your perspective).
The low interest rate/cheap funding regime allowed everyone to get broadcast tech for free. As cheap funds to keep everything afloat dries up, we realize the Actual value of everyones content is quite low.
So now we see all the content based platforms from youtube/netflix/snap/reddit/spotify/fb(layoffs/starting threads) etc and now twitter trying all sorts of new things.
Doesn't feel like a big loss cuz this period has surfaced enough number of people worth paying attention too, that there is no great reason to fund all this tech, to find more people worth paying attention too.
- fullshark 3y agoI don't agree, there will always be an ad funded content creation platform available, and it will have massive usage with young people (who don't have money). TikTok is the most recent one, another will come if they fail. People want content and don't want to pay for it, and there will be opportunity to sell ads in that environment forever.
- majani 3y agoI thought this too, then I remembered that TikTok is probably going to be the generational company for Gen Z
