- eric-burel 3y agoThis distinction doesn't exist in French. There's probably an interesting story explaining why the English language had to distinguish monkeys with a tail and monkeys without one.
- goodbyesf 3y agoI can't believe chimpanzee wasn't taken until this year. What a find. Humanzee, however, was taken in 2009 and hasn't posted since then.

- TeMPOraL 3y agoOf course if talking with a superintelligent AI / sentient beer can, humans are monkeys too, and ones particularly lacking in the hygiene department. (Yes, it's an ExForce books reference.)

However, there has been resistance to directly designate apes (and thus humans) as monkeys, so "Old World monkey" may be taken to mean either the Cercopithecoidea (not including apes) or the Catarrhini (including apes).
