The thing is for some.of the academics involved the social in-and-out are their whole careers. If you're a PhD who's entire work is about rust then this stuff matters a lot. I think that's why having more corporate involvement is probably good for these kind of orgs. Corporate types value stability because the code needs to work and be maintained long term.
