      Is it even legal to own implants like this privately? I feel like that would result in the violation of multiple laws relating to medical malpractice and improper storage.

  I mean, it’s being approved for research into serious conditions like paralysis and blindness, and afaict neither Musk nor his kids suffer from those, so it doesn’t seem ironic.
