Show HN: CheekyKeys – A Face-Controlled Keyboard
- s0teri0s 3y agoIn before someone made a "my O face" joke.
- pdxandi 3y agoAs someone who has the bad habit of lying in bed at night with my laptop on my chest and my hands tucked into the sheets reading and watching things, I think this is great!
- ThrowawayTestr 3y agoDoing it because you can aside, I feel like if you're a handicapped person with full control of your face voice dictation would probably be a better solution.
- LesZedCB 3y agoI could see both synthesized being super powerful. maybe with eye tracking too? like gestures on a trackpad
- wffurr 3y agoPer the video, this was for typing while holding a sleeping baby. Hence the need to be quiet.
- ThrowawayTestr 3y agoOf course, shame on me for not watching it.
- wffurr 3y agoIt's highly entertaining! But also I understand not watching videos.
- ThrowawayTestr 3y agoI watched the gif for a few loops...
- anigbrowl 3y agoI knew someone who had to switch to voice dictation due to RSI problems during an especially intensive work period, who ended up temporarily losing their voice through overuse. Of course that could happen with anything, overuse of a tool like this could lead to facial tics or neuralgia-like symptoms. But it's definitely got potential as an accessibility tool. Only a matter of time before someone uses this to auto-post memes/gifs of common emotional responses.
- mikaeln 3y agoLove your repos
- tomglynch 3y agoAs an able bodied person, I see potential in mapping some of these to specific regular actions, rather than individual key presses. Using this, along with dictation and a keyboard/mouse combo could save a lot of time.
- Sakos 3y agoThis seems somewhat more convenient than rolling your face across the keyboard, which was what first came to mind reading that title.
- anigbrowl 3y agozoom in: eyes bulge zoom out: eyes squint These defaults seem like the exact opposite of how you use your eyes to look at real things. Cartoons are not good reference material for HUI (unless you want cartoonish outcomes).
- totetsu 3y agoIt called 'natural zoom'
- fheisler 3y agoAs an 'unnatural' scroller, yes! And you could always swap the two lines to customize it: https://github.com/everythingishacked/CheekyKeys/blob/master/pipeface.py#L298 https://github.com/everythingishacked/CheekyKeys/blob/master...
- adav 3y agoA play on macOS's backwards 'natural scrolling'? Very good!
- betimsl 3y agoThis not only types but you also get free face yoga :D
- joshxyz 3y agobackspace: duckface + double blink oh god haha
