I find it so ironic that on one hand, we are placing great value on achieving consciousness with artificial intelligence and yet, we place so little value on our own.
If this "consciousness" thing is so hard to get, then why do we try our best to get rid of it through alcohol, recreational drugs etc ?

- code51 3y agoYes, sorry, I didn't frame it well. I meant the possibility of breaking your properly functioning state of consciousness.
- lambdatronics 3y agoThat's a great way to put it. ("properly functioning state of consciousness") Because some folks would argue that the it isn't functioning. That brings us to the question of "What does it mean to be properly functioning?" which isn't by any means settled, although "experiencing 24/7 visual snow" certainly isn't it.
