unless you are applying to one of the elite tech companies that truly elevate devops to true engineering...do not enter this field if you actually have a compsci degree when I started in this industry in the 90s, good ops people were software devs who just liked server room stuff...they were the equal of the devs, possibly even superior since they knew what we knew, plus networking and admin now, almost all ops people I work with are only good for the most trivial tasks - editing hcl files, rebooting servers, looking at datadog charts, pushing buttons in an aws console I have ops people opening tickets for me to write for loops I have ops people opening tickets for me to correct trivial syntax errors and this is at a well-known tech company, and these are the senior/director ops people who are this incapable...the junior ones don't even know basic shell commands its crazy how dumbed down most devops staffers have become do not join them, this field is well on its way to being hourly wage at most companies; I expect many of these button pushers will actually end up leaving tech (how many years can you reboot servers every day until you are legitimately suicidal?)
