First comment on twitter is that alcohol is a legacy drug from Musk.
We drink because we’ve been drinking for thousand years and it actually feels good.
But everyone knows and sees that it’s not good for our bodies and that it’s pathological for some people.
So who’s going to say that it was the best decision in their lives?
- mytailorisrich 4y agoYes it feels good. So does ice cream, full butter and cream cakes, etc. things that are not good for you if you eat too much of them. The key is moderation like for everything else. Enjoy life but know how to control yourself to enjoy it for longer.
- precompute 4y agoIce Cream, full butter and cream cakes are barely comparable to how devastating alcohol is. Eating full butter and good quality cream would actually make one healthier.
- mytailorisrich 4y agoDrinking a glass of wine or a beer is not 'devastating'...
- precompute 4y agoNot for some, but most people never stop once they start. Letting your body get excess fats, though, will do no harm. Most people could do with more healthy fat.
- mytailorisrich 4y agoOK, so a glass is indeed not devastating and the key is moderation. QED. Excess fat is unhealthy. I think the clue is in 'excess'...
- ak_111 4y agoThe point is that you don't need tons of research to figure out if alcohol is healthy or what amount of alcohol is net positive, it should be quite clear to anyone who experiences it, that health-wise it is much more inferior to being sober.
- browningstreet 4y ago“it actually feels good” …unless and until it doesn’t, and some stop easily and some stop after a good hard struggle and some keep drinking. We can rationalize alcohol as being part of the human story for centuries, but people who drink often underestimate how many people never — or almost never — drink. If you’re struggling to stop drinking and feel like “everyone drinks”, that’s not true. “In 2018, two-thirds of adults aged 18 and over consumed alcohol in the past year. In 2018, 5.1% of adults engaged in heavy drinking in the past year, 15.5% engaged in moderate drinking, 45.7% engaged in light drinking, and 33.7% did not consume alcohol (Figure 1).” https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db374.htm https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db374.htm
