Twitter is a mess, so former employees are creating Spill as an alternative

- xrayarx 4y agoThey’re called “spill” after the phrase “spill the tea,” and Terrell (one of the founders) said, that they’re leaning into the teacup motif. Even their website sports a Kermit sipping tea meme.

- clouddrover 4y agoWhy build yet another different thing? Why not instead become the best Mastodon instance around? That way they can focus on making a custom Mastodon client and server rather than trying to reinvent things. If Spill is better than the rest then people will choose it as their Mastodon provider, just as they choose between different email providers.
- xrayarx 4y agoThe problem is monetisation. Facebook and Twitter have the problem, that news organisations want to be paid for news. And so will every other social media outlet.
- joemazerino 4y agoThis will go nowhere. Twitter has always been a "mess" and that hasn't hurt it's adoption.
- gaurangt 4y agoYeah, but in the last week, it's been going downhill - abrupt removal of Spaces, Android users not able to like and retweet, and all that :(
