Although not exactly like Dwarf Fortress, I've been playing Songs of Syx[1] recently and it's incredibly good. It is made by a single developer and it is super fun. It's more of an Empire building game, and it checks a lot of the boxes I want out of these sorts of games. I can see it becoming even more impressive and as time goes on.
