Ask HN: Where are the standalone ActivityPub clients?
- smoldesu 4y agoYou need a server to federate your content with other instances. There are no "standalone" installations besides using the web client on your own machine (which I would not recommend).
- sitkack 4y agoSo this is why all the servers are written in stuff like PHP, JavaScript, Ruby, etc. The server and the client UI are the same thing. There is not yet a good standalone ActivityPub client.
- smoldesu 4y agoThe fediverse is not a push-pull system, if you aren't hosting your content then it doesn't exist. A standalone client would fail to serve your messages when you close it, defeating the point.
- tony-allan 4y agoThere are mobile apps. Do these use standard API's?
- kuramitropolis 4y agoWhat I'm looking for is a standalone frontend for servers that speak the ActivityPub protocol.
