The only way to offset carbon emissions at this stage is that a lot of people will have to die, bringing demand and consumption down dramatically. A war, famine, or general economic collapse (or all of the above) on a very large scale would technically solve this. This is what I believe policy makers and corporations think, and of course, none of them are saying that quiet part out loud.
