On one hand, I totally get it. Sending the whole team offsite for a full workday of fun and games every 6 months is a little over-the-top considering the current economic environment.
On the other hand, many FAANG have been more than happy to build remote, hybrid onsite/remote, or cross-location teams during the pandemic. This has undoubtedly helped the companies access a deeper pool of talent. The negative consequence of this is that I no longer feel as tight-knit with my team. I've never met most of them before, and my only interaction with some of them have been via chat or sitting on the same calls. This is substantially decreased my overall productivity and sense of team culture.
