I've migrated family, friends and neighbours to Linux Mint and had nothing but positive responses. In most cases they had a middle-aged computer that was not eligible for a newer Windows version; in others their existing computer died. Most mainstream Linux distros are not significantly different from Windows for your average user once they know which software is equivalent to what they used to use.
