Ok so the solution is obvious. We form the Federation Advocating Reasonable Cables and abduct USB-IF members.
Then, we guarantee their safe release given one condition: Anyone whose grandma mails us a fully compliant USB cable gets to go free.
I guarantee the standards body will come to their senses shortly.
