Haven’t toyed with it for a while and might not serve your specific use case, but I used this with my custom-made dlp printer : https://www.nanodlp.com/ https://www.nanodlp.com/ My controller was a simple stepper motor and display is a DLP projector. Might not support esoteric controllers and displays though.
