Is anybody really calling git a blockchain? I have only seen this equivalence made by critics saying "we don't need blockchain, we already have git!"
- cybrox 4y agoThere's a lot of nitpicking around this topic. Mainly because "a chain of blocks" only describes the Merkle Tree part of "blockchain technologies". I'd personally argue that "blockchain" is a bad way to describe immutable, decentralized ledgers, because it inherently leaves out some of the defining aspects. However, the term has been way too established for a long time now, so the whole discussion is moot.
- abalashov 4y agoNo, but I have heard blockchain boosters say that blockchains are "kind of like Git!" Of course, "kind of like" doesn't mean anything like "equivalent", but it draws upon something established to legitimise something that's not.
