While I certainly appreciate what both the author of this project and the WINE community have put together, how far _have_ we come? My last copy of Photoshop (albeit Photoshop 7, pre-Creative Suite) in the late 2000s worked just fine under WINE, installer and all. I honestly don't know what drift has happened since then - maybe Adobe has made this purposefully difficult in some way?

- hot_gril 4y agoI've found it more difficult to run newer software in Wine in general, especially games. Of course there's Proton for games, but I mean straight Wine. Maybe cause everything that used to be standalone now has a launcher or whatever, even Photoshop. And software is changing faster now.
- ranger_danger 4y agoI've had good success with the lutris launcher. For certain problematic apps/games (GTA5 for example), it has the option to use its own heavily patched wine that fixes tons of programs and makes them usable and often more performant, including options to use DXVK (Vulkan translation layer for later DirectX versions) or dgVoodoo2 (software emulation of old DirectX/Glide versions). Every app also gets its own wine prefix and you can still choose to use the stock wine for some apps if desired. Best thing is that it doesn't rely on proton or steam/valve in any way and respects your privacy.
