Linux 5.19 – Linus Torvalds Released It from an Apple Silicon MacBook
- wrycoder 4y agoJust in time! My M2 Air arrives in two weeks. My last Air has lasted ten years and will now become a pure GNU/Linux machine, since Catalina support is ending. Thanks to Apple for the great new machine and for supporting this! And X-plane 12 will run natively!!
- smoldesu 4y ago> Thanks to Apple for [...] supporting this! I'm curious; what contributions to the Asahi project did Apple make?
- wrycoder 4y agoI think, largely by not locking them out of the platform.
- kaladin-jasnah 4y agoI believe they also changed it so the M1 can load non Mach-O executables or something.
- smoldesu 4y agoI don't think that's as much of a contribution to Linux as it is to Windows (or hell, even Android for that matter). Even with that considered, the only change they made was one that was unnecessary on x86 machines. They were basically bringing M1 up to parity.
