Video – Wind turbine struck by lighting in Cromwell, Texas
- powerbroker 4y agoThere must be some mechanism to mitigate lightning strikes. Feathering the blades? Applying the brakes? Neither will put out the fire -- but it will be less click-worthy... and maybe the cows, below, will appreciate not having debris rain down on them.
- BenjiWiebe 4y agoI'm guessing the vast majority of lightning strikes don't start fires on wind turbines. I guess I'll see - we had a wind farm installed several miles from us a number of years ago. So far none have burned even though we get our fair share of thunderstorms. I'll keep an eye out.
- hypertele-Xii 4y agoVideo shows the turbine after being struck by lightning, not the lightning strike itself. One of its blades is on fire.
- 8bitsrule 4y ago>I wonder how much damage a burning blade does to the environment? >Less than a coal fired power plant does every minute.
