Show HN: Bible Semantic Search
- crehn 4y agoHey, I got the original idea from this HN post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31733673 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31733673 The main intention was to support more translations for better results. Code is here: https://github.com/hoffa/bible-search https://github.com/hoffa/bible-search
- gnicholas 4y agoYou might consider prepending "Show HN: " to the title of your post.
- crehn 4y agoThank you! Added.
- bfung 4y agoI had to be that troll: (But the tech seems good, good work!) search: abortion Results Leviticus 18:29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. Read Leviticus 18 Numbers 12:12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb. Read Numbers 12 …

- kgwxd 4y agoThe book is as disgusting as Mein Kampf. Why does any decent person think they'll find morality within it?
- seibelj 4y agoIt’s a super old book that guided a large portion of humanity through pre-enlightenment time. The historical references are pretty factual based on other sources and archaeological finds. The Bible is an interesting artifact.
- quartesixte 4y agoIt also is the basis of modern, Western literary culture and with it its philosophical tradition.
- trasz 4y agoSame way alchemy and astrology are.
- LittleShaman 4y agoYou use "guided". It still guides the largest religion and another important one. Even though it does give insight to its historical context, it is much more than an artifact. Criticism of its morals are still relavant.
- seibelj 4y agoI was trying to write in a specific way for the HN audience. But yes - it remains a very important moral text for many people, including on HN.
- turing_complete 4y agoSo, you read neither of them?

- trasz 4y agoNote that this seriously misrepresents the subject. For reference: https://reverbpress.com/religion/bible-supports-abortion/ https://reverbpress.com/religion/bible-supports-abortion/
- tubignaaso 4y agoHere’s a counter argument source of what the second largest contingent of Christians believe: https://www.assemblyofbishops.org/news/2022/human-life-sacredness https://www.assemblyofbishops.org/news/2022/human-life-sacre...
- trasz 4y agoThe "second largest contingent" would be a good argument for something that's based on consensus, eg some science. Otherwise - like in this case - it's just https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum.
- ggeorgovassilis 4y ago"Computer" -> "Behold, I know your thoughts, The devices with which you would wrong me." Suggestion: Can I link to queries, search result pages and individual query-result items?
- asimpleusecase 4y agoI’m getting a blank screen.
- olivierestsage 4y agoThis is a very useful tool -- thank you.
