I use google cloud shell (remote vm or a docker container whatever), it is fast and I can try bunch (most) of things real quick.
clone repos, docker-compose up, open web preview. It saves time and keeps local machine clean.
Also I made a script to install a DE and novnc, I can browse in it, and not feel guilty about local firewall.
