It must pain you deeply whenever you look at your car radio and it says "AM" and "FM" instead of "medium wave" and "ultra-short wave".
- implements 4y agoIt’s not a deep pain - but it jars a bit once you’ve learnt you can broadcast AM on high frequencies and FM on low. For a domestic radio, AM / FM just means low / high fidelity, and users just see two sets of numbers 520 to 1602, and 88 to 108 (in the UK). I doubt most people belly feel the physics of it, or that the latter is higher frequency than the former.
