Imports for refineries, whose products we export. Based on the global refinery shortage, they'll be hit much harder than we are.

This is due in large part because of Russian agents getting Canadian oil sources cancelled. The USA needs to stop buying conflict oil.

If only we had a pipeline from a geographically and ideologically close ally, like say, the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada. "A planned 1,179-mile (1,897km) pipeline running from the oil sands of Alberta, Canada, to Steele City, Nebraska, where it would join an existing pipe. It could carry 830,000 barrels of oil each day."[1] One of President Biden's first actions in office was cancelling that very pipeline.[2] Then amazingly the same president approved Nord Stream 2 that would pump profits into Russia as it was pumping out it's oil.[3] The cognitive dissonance required to understand these two separate but conflicted actions is mind boggling. They are pipelines that exist on different continents, with one traveling over home-soil and cancelled due to environmental reasons while the other was temporarily blocked due to political sanctions.

    Biden said he cancelled the project to fight climate change. So let's break this down... We imported record levels of oil from Russia in 2021. Instead of getting it locally it was shipped to the United States from overseas using tankers burning fossil fuel! That's insane. A five year old could spot the problem. The rhetoric doesn't match reality or common sense. When you burn fossil fuels from Russia it creates the same global GHG as oil from North America. If you burn oil to get it here it's worse for climate change. None of it makes any sense.

  Possibly - although if the prospect of energy independence (and the ability to showcase that ability) thanks to renewables isn't far off, it could make sense to skip both pipelines (and all the associated infrastructure, security, environmental and dependency expenses) and move directly to a more modern approach.
