Crowd sourced wars; we are living in a world a previous generation would hold up as a dark dystopia.
- tokai 5y agoWhat? Wars have been crowd sourced since forever. Crusades, worlds wars, and so on.
- sofixa 5y agoYou should look up on the Crusades, liberty bonds, donation runs of metals from the population, etc. There's nothing dystopian about people donating for a military cause.
- monkeynotes 5y agoI see significant differences between now and a time before the whole world was wired together. Being able to sit at your desk and casually click fund a war that you are watching in real-time on Twitter and cheering on with memes on Reddit is dystopian in my mind. I see crowdsourcing as being a distinctly modern phenomena enabled by the internet. I don't see it as being the same as historical methods of collecting monies from the populace. Are taxes often referred to as 'crowdsource'? No, and that's because there is a nuance.
- danuker 5y agoIsn't state funding also crowd-sourcing? Except by force?
- alecbz 5y agoI don't think you can really consider it crowd-funding unless people are individually choosing to contribute to the specific cause.
- monkeynotes 5y agoYeah, otherwise we may as well call all types of wealth collection "crowd sourcing". I think saying this is the same as crusades and liberty bonds is founding your observation on pedantry.
