- Kon-Peki 5y agoWhen that article was first published, I had just closed on the sale of my condo but the purchase of my house fell through because the seller couldn't close on their purchase. My family had just moved into an extended stay hotel, which had so many people in the same situation that there was a daily school bus to pick up the kids. Fun fact: if you list a hotel as your address, the State of Illinois considers you homeless and tries to give you all sorts of services for free. All the hotel taxes were refunded. The city we were in gave us free passes to the municipal water park. My wife and I laughed - we might have been the richest homeless people in the state. But then we looked at the cars in the parking lot and figured we probably weren't even close. FYI - we did get a house, eventually. And it's worth about $100k more than we paid last summer...
