Don't get me wrong but I think that's one of the reasons why Singapore is one of the fastest growing countries in the world.
- skywal_l 5y agoThat and the tax heaven. /s
- secondaryacct 5y agoSingapore is as much of a tax heaven as Hong Kong is. When you live there, it's not. Now if you re a chronically over spending under budgeted country and look at Singapore you're like "how can they be so rich with so little tax, they re robbing us", but that may hide a few things you could try on your side.
- dragonelite 5y agoDoes it really matter for 99% of us who are just working class people. If Singapore can be a tax heaven and the profits are distributed more in the public sector i'm all for it.
- martneumann 5y agoYou take taxes away from other countries where the profits would be distributed - and where the actual companies operate.
- zytron3 5y ago"Race to the bottom" tax policy is only really good for multinational corporations.
- dragonelite 5y agoIts a race to the bottom sure, but if it isn't you there are many others that will deliver the Tax Haven service.
- markdown 5y agoThe US (multiple of your states) is more a tax haven than Singapore. By far.
- unwind 5y agoSorry for being That Guy, but the word is "haven" [1], Google defines it [2] as "a place of safety or refuge". As a Scandinavian, the idea of someone being "safe" from taxes is ... alien, to say the least. :) [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_haven https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_haven [2] https://www.google.com/search?q=haven+dictionary https://www.google.com/search?q=haven+dictionary
- dragonwriter 5y ago> Don’t get me wrong but I think that’s one of the reasons why Singapore is one of the fastest growing countries in the world. It’s not. (Unless you have a really expansive view of “one of”.) Whether you mean population or economy.
- throwaway48375 5y agoFastest growing is always a BS stat.
- pennaMan 5y agoCan you expand on that?
- throwaway48375 5y agoFastest growing really just means newest. Take the statement "fastest growing social media service" for example. If Facebook has 3 billion subscribers and manages to get another two billion that grew 67%. If I start a new service with myself as the only member and then convince 100 of my friends and family to join it grew 10,000%. Now I am the fastest growing social media service, until someone starts a new one that is.
