Ask HN: How is Windows 11? Should I upgrade?
My 9th gen Lenovo carbon x1 is stable on 10 Pro ... Should I bother upgrading?
- beckingz 5y agoNope. The snipping tool is slightly improved.
- mikefallen 5y agoOnce i installed startallback to fix the menu bar it is pretty much the same as windows 10 except they have pushed more of the stuff from control panel into the new settings ui. Notifications are better managed / cleaner. I like the multiple desktops and new window layout options as well. I have been running it since November and it has been reliable and i have not really had any issues. The new start menu is horrendous though.
- Blackstrat 5y agoDoesn’t Windows 11 require sign in to a Microsoft account as has been reported in some places?
- theandrewbailey 5y agoFor me, there's nothing that Windows 11 has that 10 doesn't, so I haven't bothered with 11.
- yuppie_scum 5y agoI think it’s cleaner than 10. The settings/control panel stuff is slowly getting to be less ancient. You can configure everything to look like 10/xp/whatever. At 0 dollars totally worth the upgrade.
- culopatin 5y agoI keep having weird issues like I can’t change the volume or dialogs crash and close on their own. Also my FN keys work only sometimes. This is on a HP 840 G5. Your mileage may vary
