I'm sitting at my desk using emacs in a terminal, running tests using "^X^E" via 'make', and seeing the results beside my code -- literally exactly like I did in 1987. It was "Gosling Emacs" then, and "cc" on a shared VAX-11/780 instead of Rust, Python, Nix, on a 16-core Xeon, etc. Still the most productive programming environment that I know of.
