Sustainers, Boost and Badges, Contribute to Signal
- mthld 5y agoI happen to be somewhat disappointed by Signal recently (crypto payments bundled in app, shady open-source practices…) but to this day I cannot find any viable alternative as a full-featured messaging application (and don’t tell me about Matrix ecosystem). So when these financial contributions features were added I decided to subscribe for 5€ per month. If you value Signal services I encourage you to do the same!
- theGeatZhopa 5y agoThere is a answer to a question, which is half of the pie. Does Apple or google get their cut? No. Ok. Good. What about stripe? I never used stripe, because their business model is to keep a big pile of the other half of the cake - I think.
- mthld 5y agoThat’s an interesting question indeed. Based on this public documentation from Stripe it seems they take a 1% cut: https://stripe.com/pricing/local-payment-methods https://stripe.com/pricing/local-payment-methods But maybe I don’t understand it properly, first they talk about a fee then there is a table with prices…
- theGeatZhopa 5y agoIt looks very strange or I'm really dumb on this. They list alipay and others. They say x.yy percent + a fixed fee. Ok, if I use stripe on my site, and advise stripe to transfer all the customer's money spend on my site (with stripe acting as an collector) using alipay to my bank account in china, I would pay like 2.9% and x cent... What about alipay? Don't they want to earn money too? I don't get it.
