- Jun8 15y agoGood old Larkin! This reminds me of Toads, which, of course is well-known. However, he also has a poem called Toads Revisited, which, depending on your reading, may be heartbreaking in its conformism.

- Jun8 15y agoThanks for pointing that out :-) The reference and the post reminded me of Larkin's two poems, but maybe I didn't phrase the mental hyperlink clearly. But more importantly, thanks for at least checking the reference out in the parent rather than giving it a downvote, as some here are apt to do. I guess some think that any poetry relevance would be irrelevant in HN. To those I would reply: It is difficult to get the news from poems yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there.
